心在疫起 NEW NORMS PARK #3: Site Visit

Overview of the site

Today's the first time we visited the Tai Chi Garden site (since the MCO). We needed to assess its existing conditions and conduct detailed measurements, to ensure that our proposed design was actually feasible and build-able.

Here's what we found!

Surrounding Context
Situated adjacent to SMK Padungan, and facing Jalan Tan Sri Datuk William Tan; it is shrouded by landscaping and seemingly "invisible" to passerbys.

The site is accessible via an entrance boulevard from MBKS Staff carpark.

Existing Floor
The floor comprises of 460 x 460mm concrete paving tiles. They are laid over sand bedding and have +-5mm gaps between pavers. Some of the pavers were already painted.

Recording dimensions for accurate representation when doing the 3D modelling.

Measuring the exact dimensions of the concrete pavers. We randomly select 10 different pavers from different areas on site to cross check for consistency.

Measuring the gaps between pavers. All the gaps are different, but we summarised that the average spacing is +-5mm.

Counting the total number of pavers in the entire site!

There are 72 tiles that make up the diameter of the area where we propose to install our elements.

Our design had to be updated to reflect the inclusion of these "offset rings".

Existing Furniture
There are some concrete seating with integrated planters at site. These will be retained as they are still in good condition and are functional.
