BUS STOP PROTOTYPE #2: Design Concept

Sustainability is an essential part of our firm’s philosophy. We strive to develop designs that can showcase not only good/sensible design with flexibility, but also outcomes that are sustainable and can have second lives.

The design concept of this bus stop prototype explores the “3M” design, and “3R” sustainability goals.

The “3M” Design Goals are:

        1. Modular

      • Standard modules that can be produced in the factory, which allow design modifications tailored to suit varying site conditions; echoing the Sarawak Government’s push for pre-fabrication;
      • Minimise site works and construction activities that may cause public nuisance.
      • Ensure quality control during fabrication.
      • Speed in delivery, whereby this bus stop project took less than 2 weeks from idea conception to delivery.

        2. Mobile

  • Standard modules which are mobile structures that can be relocated and delivered with minimal disturbances caused to the public.

        3. Maintenance

  • Robust construction that is best suited as public structures which are inevitably subject to vandalism.

Inline with our Sarawak Government's Environmental Sustainability Goals

 The “3R” Sustainability Goals are:

1. Reduce (Reduce Construction Wastage)

whereby components of the bus stop are repurposed from a used shipping container and off-cuts are reused as furniture and awnings.

2. Recycle (and Upcycle)

old shipping container which have reached its end-of-life, upcycle for new usage.

3. Reuse (Second Life)

Allow future adaptive Reuse of the bus stop in other location or for other purposes.
